This week’s theme:

The hidden cost of multitasking — splitting your focus always taxes your future self.

We glorify multitasking. Answering emails while on a call. Jumping between projects. Scrolling while half-listening.

It feels productive in the moment, but it isn’t. Multitasking doesn’t save time—it steals it.

Every time you split your focus, you pay a hidden tax: slower progress, weaker memory, and more mistakes.

And here’s the kicker: your future self is the one footing the bill.

Clarity, speed, and energy come from doing one thing at a time.

Not three.

The real power move?

Monotasking.

Multitasking: Productivity’s Greatest Lie

We’ve been sold the lie that multitasking is efficient.

In reality, it’s a productivity killer in disguise.

Science shows multitasking reduces intelligence quotient (IQ) as much as losing a full night’s sleep. It lowers accuracy, increases stress, and even shrinks the brain’s gray matter in areas linked to focus.

The brain is not designed to parallel process complex tasks.

What we call multitasking is really “task switching” or rapidly shifting attention back and forth. Each switch comes with a cognitive “reset cost.”

That’s why writing an email while on Zoom leaves you drained and behind on both.

Want to get more done? Do less at once.

  • Turn off Slack or TEAMS while writing.
  • Leave your phone in another room during meetings.
  • Dedicate blocks of time for deep work, and guard them.

Multitasking taxes your future self. Monotasking invests in them.

And how to retrain yourself to work with clarity instead of chaos.

Packed with stories, humor, and exercises, this book is both eye-opening and liberating. It gives you permission to stop splitting your attention (and the tools to actually do it).

Focus Is Freedom

We love to brag about how busy we are, how many things we are juggling.

But splitting your focus is not a strength; it’s sabotage.

When you stop multitasking, you don’t just save time; you also improve your focus and productivity.

  • You reclaim energy.
  • You sharpen your mind.
  • You respect your future self.

This week, focus on one task and give it your undivided attention.

Not 80%. Not half. 100%.

Because the work that matters deserves nothing less.

Keep focusing forward,

Until next Sunday.
